Visit to Defranceschi

On 9th of October 2009; I visited Defranceschi Group in Imola, Italy. This company is one of the leading Italian companies to manufacture equipments and machineries for wine and beverage industry. Bellow I have written a brief report on my visit and have described some activates of this group.

Beginning of the company:

Defranceschi was founded in 1954, when Francesco Defranceschi, then a fifty year-old man, decided to start “Vinificatori Brevettati Defranceschi S.n.c.” in the city of Bolzano, in the Alto-Adige region of Italy. There he began to market his own invented automatic fermenting systems Defranceschi focuses on fermentation processes, designing and developing innovative solutions protected by international patents mentioned in wine texts all over the world. The Defranceschi Group has recently bought out the wine BU of AMOS G.m.b.H. in Heilbronn, a well-known German company recognized world-wide as a leading manufacturer of wine-making machinery. With the addition of the AMOS trademark in the wine sector, the Defranceschi Group is now able to meet the needs of the entire wine-making industry with its own products right from the start – from grape receiving and transport to crushing-destalking, pressing, fermentation, temperature control and storage.

Products for wine industry:

Grape trolly:
RUBIS REV is a hitch specially designed to transport grapes: a vibrating base is employed that assures the grapes are unloaded in the gentlest way. Vibration guarantees the clusters are unloaded into the destalker-crusher in a free-flowing steady manner, thereby avoiding mechanical stress.
The stainless steel container of the vibrating trolley comes with a flat and perforated base that allows the must to be extracted and collected during transport. Must is collected and can be drawn separately from the bunches.
The painted steel trolley is equipped with a lever used to engage the parking brake, a height-adjustable hitch, and a hydraulic jack used to increase the unloading height, moving the container up to over 2 meters. The unloading capacity is variable.
Two distinct electric motors are employed. The motor control is integrated in the trolley while an external electrical power source is needed
Sorting tables and belt conveyors:
Produce sorting tables (with belt or shaking system) and different belt conveyors in order to design modern grape receiving pads.

Destalkers:
Suitable for all kinds of grapes, harvested either by hand or with mechanical means, AM model destalkers are mounted on a stainless steel framework. The stainless beater and the basket are driven by two separate motors. The sturdy stainless steel construction and baskets available in either superior quality plastic or stainless steel.

Volumetric pumps:
volumetric pumps are designed and engineered to handle grapes, crushed grapes, pomace, solid yeasts, viscous composites and fruit pulp. The reduced rpm protects the pumped product from being subject to mechanical stress

Pneumatic pressing systems:
The wide range of Defranceschi presses is available in the open drum (MO and Magnum lines) or closed drum (CD and HG lines) versions: the possibilities offered by the two systems have been stream-lined to offer state-of-the-art technology in this field.

Vertical press:
Vertical press is a technologically advanced machine, whose operating principle is based on a traditional and widely tested method. This innovative machine is specifically designed to meet the needs of the first extremely delicate process the freshly picked grapes undergo. Instead of stirring the grapes, the juice is pressed, as per antique traditions. Using the relative control instrument, the pressing plate gradually descends and either comes to a stop or continues moving down, depending on the must that spurts out. This process prevents harmful transfer, thereby producing limpid must free of unwanted matter that almost does not require any further treatment.

Fermenting systems:
The range of fermentation systems offered by the company has been stream-lined according to wine-making criteria. They use AISI 306/ 316 stainless steel for making this stainless steel tanks.

Compact “Frigopack” chillers”:
Temperature controlling system for the fermenting tanks.

Cold concentrators for must:
“Concentramatic” concentrators are constructed entirely in stainless steel. The must is self-enriched as some of the water evaporates under vacuum at a low temperature. The loss of sugar in the evaporated water is notably reduced and unremarkable. In addition, the organoleptic compounds and specific aromas fundamental to obtain supreme quality must are not affected in any way as a very low temperature is used for evaporation. This type of self-enrichment process for the must is by far more convenient than adding concentrated or rectified must or sugar in countries where this is permitted.

These all above mentioned product are manufactured at highest quality as told by the representative of the company. Apart from this they even undertake Trunkey projects of planning of large wineries, floor map planning, and complete erection of a winery.

So thus Defranceschi has complete solution from winery planning to winery installation.
